You slowly back into the forest as the sky darkens further. The woods seem more confining after the open space, and your eyes have difficulty adjusting in the pitch blackness.
The soft sounds earlier in the woods are now gone and you hear distant noises of varying tones, some sound like chirps and others akin to screams, sending chills down your back and making your hands tremble slightly. You stay on the periphery of the woods, not daring to go in deeper yet worried about being seen by any eyes that might look out of the caverns.
A twig breaks close by and you hear crunching footsteps in the leaves and needles on the ground. You stand very still, holding your breath. You then see hundreds of eyes glowing in the dark around you. You begin running in a direction away from the eyes into the woods to your right. As you run, you hear something heavy pursuing you. You run faster, not looking where you are going and running into tree limbs, cutting yourself. As you run, you suddenly feel the ground give way. You are out of the woods and see open sky. As you fall, you realize that your course ran toward the right-hand side of the woods, taking to the area where the cliff drops to a sheer fall off the mountain. Your last thoughts are that the eyes you see above in the woods now appear to be simply a raccoon, which apparently was your pursuer.
